While many are still learning the ropes (and some are on their first-ever voyage), we found the predominantly American crew aboard Pride of America to be friendly and hardworking. American crewmembers are supplemented by a smattering of international crew, who set the tone for professionalism and dedication to service. And what they may lack in polish (right now), they make up for in enthusiasm.

Service history
It is recommended that you request a split bed prior to sailing to allow housekeeping enough time to accommodate. If you are already onboard and want to split your bed, alert your cabin steward; it might take several hours to complete this request. It may be early days as far as the Hawaiian cruise restart goes, but Norwegian and the crew aboard Pride of America have turned the ship into a destination in its own right.
selectedDeckPlan.name - Staterooms
Pride of America has two Deluxe Family Penthouse suites, each measuring between 607 and 650 square feet. They have the same amenities as the Deluxe Penthouse Suites except instead of a separate shower and double vanity, they have a single vanity and a tub/shower combo. Each one has a walk-in closet and king-sized bed separated from the living room with a privacy curtain. All are grateful to be here, to have passengers onboard once again - and so are most passengers I spoke with onboard. Sure, some are miffed about shore excursions and specialty restaurants being booked up, and that, too, is understandable. But as good as it is, dinner at Le Bistro should not be your reason for booking a cruise to Hawaii; you can do that onboard Norwegian Sky on a cruise to the Bahamas for a fraction of the price.

With so many bars and lounges to discover, finding your favourite may take a few days. Pop some bubbly and toast to the good life inside Pink's Champagne Bar. Dance until the wee hours at New Orleans-inspired Mardi Gras Cabaret Lounge & Nightclub. Whether you're looking to meet up with friends or make new ones, there's always an opportunity to mix it up.
Studio Single Cabins
Single cabins (single-occupancy rooms, targeting solo travelers) are called Studios. The ship also has a high-tech digital photo gallery with touch screen kiosks and a collection of different cameras for sale. In addition, Perspectives Studio (Deck 5) offers private portraits taken by professional photographers. Right next to the studio, in the Atrium on Deck 5, are the guest services and shore excursion counters. Pride of America has a host of services, starting with its Newbury Street Shops (Deck 5), a collection of stores situated to look like a quaint downtown street.
But harkening back to my slightly higher pre-coronavirus standards with the hope that eventually I’ll return to them, I’d consider the entertainment on the Pride of America perfectly fine, but not great. I’m a huge fan of the full-length Broadway-style shows on the larger NCL ships, but those aren’t offered on smaller ships. Instead, the Pride of America main theater features loosely plotted singing and dancing shows (such as Lights, Camera, Music!) performed by the ship’s production cast, a magician, a comedian, and a special guest vocal group (on our sailing it was These Guys Worldwide).

Relax with a hot-stone massage, one of over 50 specialty treatments offered. Modern, comfortable and stylish staterooms with nice appointments throughout, including a window with clear views of the ocean. “We are eager to resume our journey around the Big Island, committed to making the remainder of your time with us as relaxing and enjoyable as possible,” the company said. Seating for Aloha Cafe/Kid's Cafe spans a large area, indoors and outdoors.
Pride of America crew members are paid more, enjoy labor protections foreign workers do not, and turnover is higher, leading to increased cruise fares. Our total 7-night fare on the Pride of America was nearly double what we paid for a 15-night sailing on the Grand Princess round-trip to Hawaii from San Fransisco. In fact, it was our most expensive vacation ever (factoring in the expense of getting to and from Honolulu by air). She’s 15 years old (with her last refurbishment completed in 2016), 920 feet long, weighs in at over 80,000 tons, is adorned in red, white, and blue, and is affectionately known as the “Pride of America” to her 927 crew members and 2,186 guests.

On the other side of the spectrum, those who want a fancier evening (with posher drinks) can go to the Napa Wine Bar and Pink's Champagne Bar. The Hollywood Theater is a good place for those who want to hear show tunes and see Broadway-style performances while Club Mardi Gras is perfect for people who are more interested in a lounge atmosphere and want to dance well into the evening. Pride of America was commissioned in 2005 and in spring 2016 underwent a massive, multimillion-dollar enhancement project during a monthlong dry dock, which saw the ship essentially gutted replacing old furnishings with updated carpeting, furniture and flooring. Several bars were completely overhauled, private cabanas were added to Deck 14, the suites were refurbished and the spa was upgraded. The results of this effort are impressive and immediately apparent upon boarding the ship. In addition to a fresh paint job in patriotic colors, the interior resembles that of a five-star resort.
One main plus for this ship is that it has U.S. registration and doesn't have to embark or disembark in Vancouver or Ensenada (The Passenger Services Act orders foreign-flagged cruise vessels to go to a port when leaving or returning to US waters). Pride of America and her guests celebrate American culture and history, from the kitsch of the Cadillac Diner to the sober statue of Abraham Lincoln in the Liberty Dining Room. All staterooms provide ample storage space (drawers, closets, shelves, cubbyholes). As the only U.S. flagged cruise ship, Pride of America sails year round from Honolulu, giving you the freedom and flexibility to holiday on your timetable .
Enjoy a night of gastronomic proportions at one of our many speciality restaurants. Sip your favourite cocktail as you select from choice cuts of Angus beef at Cagney's Steakhouse. No matter what you choose, our speciality dining options feature the tastes you'll crave. With so many bars and lounges to discover, finding your favorite may take a few days. Pop some bubbly and toast to the good life inside Pink’s Champagne Bar.
Aboard Pride of America, performances are limited to vocalists, comedians, movie screenings, and game-show-like contests. When you're ready to book your Hawaiian adventure on Pride of America, sign up for Norwegian's cruise deals in the meantime. You'll get the latest deals and specials delivered to your inbox.
Olivere sits on the ASTA marketing committee and the CLIA trade relations board and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chinese Studies from the University of Michigan. Jefferson's Bistro is the signature spot on Pride of America for those who prefer French cuisine. This fine dining experience will make you feel like you're in France with elegant interior décor, white linen tablecloths, and high-end service. If your vacation at sea has you craving sushi, hit the sushi and sashimi bar on deck 5, in the same area as East Meets West and Teppanyaki. While this small bar and dining area is separate from East Meets West, you can also request the sushi menu while dining at East Meets West (which I’d recommend if you want to order off both menus). Sit at the bar though if you want to watch the talented chefs prepare your rolls.
Mandara Salon is adjacent to the spa and offers a host of services. Keratin Complex treatments start at $155 and manicures and pedicures cost $50 and $70 respectively. In addition to the evening productions, passengers can go to the Hollywood Theater during the day for magic shows, comedy shows and movie screenings. In the process, the ship was lengthened from 850 feet (260 m) to 920 feet (280 m), increasing the gross tonnage from 72,000 to more than 80,000. Sommer joined the company in 2000 and then rejoined in 2009 and has served in various executive positions within the company.
Pride of America's Mandara Spa (Deck 12) is spacious and well-appointed with a quiet relaxation room (co-ed), locker rooms and a thermal suite that features heated stone loungers (try using one to extend your relaxation, post-treatment). You can get access to the thermal suite for the entirety of the cruise for $100 or go for a day for $20. Access to the thermal suite is included in any 75- or 100-minute massage. Evening sports trivia tournaments often happen at the John Adams Coffee Bar. The ship, which carries 2,186 passengers at full occupancy but is sailing at 50 percent capacity through at least November 2022, is 17 years old and unique to the NCL fleet. It features a distinctly Americana theme—the main reception area resembles something straight out of Jeffersonian Washington, D.C.—with décor that's kitschy and colorful rather than contemporary and neutral.
Couple that with a dedicated Kid's Cinema, the Splash Academy youth clubs, and activities geared just for kids, and you've got the recipe for a great family vacation -- even if Pride of America lacks some of the newer bells-and-whistles like waterslides and splash parks. The Pulse Fitness center (Deck 12) is open 24 hours a day and was renovated as part of the ship's 2016 dry dock. The result is a state-of-the-art space with TechnoGym cardio and weight equipment (each with its own television) and multiple studios for small group classes.
