How to Care for Fine, Thin Hair

fine hair vs thin hair

"Consider shorter haircuts and layers that help you create volume." If you're frustrated with what you perceive as a lack of hair, the first step in reaching your hair goals is knowing the hand you were dealt. That starts with understanding the difference between fine and thinning hair. Having fine hair refers to the diameter of each individual strand, which should be thinner than a strand of thread. On the other hand, thinning hair refers to the density of your strands per square inch of your scalp, or in other words, how much hair you have on your head.

In an effort to prevent damage, add a weekly treatment to your hair routine. Heavy treatments like deep conditioners and masks can weigh down fine hair, so go for something lightweight. Additionally, if you have fine hair, sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase to reduce friction on your strands. If your hair is damaged from bleach, hair dye, hot tools, chemical treatments or a combination of these processes, that can lead to hair breakage, which can manifest itself as thinning hair. Your hair becomes thin not because it’s falling out at the root, but because it’s so damaged it’s breaking off. The popular ombre coloring technique can also add depth and dimension to fine hair, so it’s a great option.

Thin Hair vs. Thinning Hair

This is another incredibly versatile style that works with a variety of hair textures. A short curly bob looks glamorous and old-fashioned in the best way possible, while a slightly longer straight bob has a more brazen attitude. The thin tousled bob is the modern answer to the classic sleek bob for women who want to inject some volume into their fine locks. There are numerous ways to wear it, including the playful side-swept style or the more daring piecey textured look. You can pair it with fringe if you are so inclined, but it also looks great when it’s all one length with a few long layers for added volume.

The Layered, Asymmetrical Bob

Grab a handful of your hair, pull it to one side, and check how visible your scalp is. Excessive coloring or chemical treatments can lead to hair damage and potential thinning. Because your hair deserves the same level of care and attention as the rest of you. Thin hair showcases a unique kind of beauty characterized by its lightweight and airy texture. Thin hair can be styled in a variety of ways, from sleek to voluminous, with relatively less effort. Fine hair adds a touch of grace and subtlety to your overall appearance.

Tie your hair back into an elegant knot at the nape of your neck. If hiding unwanted grease  is your main pain point, we recommend leaning into the shine by going for a glassy look like Jamie Chung. Coat the hair in a shine spray, like the ColorWow Extra Mist-ical Shine Spray, and then straighten every last strand.

Blunt Shoulder Length Style

Most of us use the words fine and thin interchangeably when it comes to hair. Learn the differences between fine and thin hair and how you can care for each. Hair washes and rinses will help clean your hair and remove oil buildup from the scalp without weighing it down with extra ingredients. Then use a lightweight conditioner specifically formulated for fine hair to help keep it moisturized.

"If you have fine strands of hair or lack density all over the scalp, bangs can be a great way to frame your face," she says. "Sometimes thin hair is particularly sparse around the hairline and top corners of the head. In those cases, bangs are not recommended because it makes the thinness more noticeable." Which means that anyone can have thin hair, even if you have shoulder-length curls or coils. "Hair can come in tons of combinations, including fine and coarse hair, or thin and fine hair," Everett adds. However, with the right styling, you can make those fine strands of yours look fuller than they really are.

For a flirty, youthful look, part your hair in the middle and wrap both sides around a large barrel curling iron. The face-framing effect highlights your eyes and cheekbones rather than your fine hair. The short choppy bob is the perfect haircut for women who prefer the look and functionality of a classic, low-maintenance style.

Fine hair and thin hair are two terms that get thrown around interchangeably, but they're not actually the same thing. When talking about fine hair, you're referring to the actual density of the hair strand. Whereas thin hair means you have less volume of hair on your head, which can make the scalp visible.

Fine hair is considered difficult to manage but easier to heat style. After you find the best haircut for your fine hair, the next step is learning how to style it. The biggest hurdle people with fine hair face is achieving full-bodied and voluminous locks. The good news, though, is fine hair is one of the best hair types to have because it’s both manageable and malleable!

fine hair vs thin hair

It’s ideal for fine tresses because it provides a unique texture, especially when paired with a deep side part. For some extra pizzazz, use a texturizing spray on the bulk of the hair to create a slightly tousled piecey look, then slick back the parted side to create contrast. Highlights and long curtain bangs are great for providing the illusion that you have luscious, thick tresses. It’s flirty, fun, and a bit sassy, and it’s perfect for women of any age. If you have fine hair, don’t be afraid to use a conditioner — the right one will leave your locks feeling smooth and shiny without any limpness. Furthermore, some conditioners are especially formulated to help add bulk to individual strands.

Fine hair and thin hair are more susceptible to weigh down which means oils at the roots can easily overcome your style. While washing your hair more often may seem like the obvious choice, resist the urge because this can dry out your strands, leading to flat, lifeless and dehydrated hair. Remember that it’s normal to lose 50 to 100 strands of hair per day, per the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). When someone is experiencing telogen effluvium, the hair loss is much more significant. Achieve the volume, texture and hold you want without the crunch. This decadent, nutrient-filled styling aid adds shine, texture and lift while strengthening your hair.

"Sometimes, bangs are a great way to change hairstyle without having to do too much," says Stanwell. Which is prob why Dakota Johnson's hair always looks fab, even when it's simplistic and down, showcasing her natural straight texture. Plus, "bangs on finer hair can be easier to manage as well," Stanwell adds. Eventually, they'll probably air dry to your liking, but in the beginning, all you've gotta do is blow dry them with a round brush to give them a bit of volume and shape. To manage excess oil on second-day hair, opt for dry shampoo instead—stylists say the powder remnants will mop up excess oil and create more volume.

Also known as the no-poo method, co-washing is quite common among curly-haired women. Instead of a shampoo, you use a conditioner to rinse out the dirt. Since this method is primarily used to get soft hair instantly, it works well in improving the texture of coarse hair. The difference between fine and thin hair is all about texture and density. Fine hair means the strand is smaller in diameter or circumference, while thin hair suggests fewer follicles and less growth on the scalp.

You may notice that you can see your scalp through your hair or spots of your scalp where hair isn’t growing. Fine and thin hair often get confused for being the same thing because they can both be attributed to feeling like you have less hair than those with thick or coarse hair. No matter what hair type you are, though, make sure you're armed with the right vocabulary to talk about it with your stylist. They will be able to guide you in choosing the correct products to strengthen your fine hair and give your thin hair some serious volume.

The Best Updos for Thin Hair, According to Experts

If you’re growing out a pixie cut, this is an excellent transition style that will bring you through those awkward stages with dignified elegance. For a flirty, romantic look, try the slightly tousled look, but tuck one side behind your ear. For something more audacious, slick your hair straight back and finish with a strong hairspray that adds shine.

Haircuts and Styles That Make Thin Hair Look Thicker

To get your lob to look as spacious as this, simply take a rounded brush and tease your hair—focus on your roots to lift your hair as much as possible. A bob haircut doesn't have to look sharp, even if it's a blunt cut. Try adding subtle layers throughout to add some movement and dimension to your hair. And if you're down to copy this style, opt for a 1.25 inch curling iron to add waves through your hair, pinning them while they cool to increase their longevity. Then, once you let them down, brush them through and spritz with hairspray for smooth, undefined curls.

This Super-Short Pixie

The long shag haircut gives women who have thinning or naturally fine hair the option to wear their tresses well beyond shoulder length. The addition of long, choppy layers creates movement and lift in the hair, and it also helps to create the illusion that your cascading locks are thicker than they really are. To rev up this style and give it a rock-and-roll punch, apply some volumizing mousse to your roots and give them a slight tease, then apply some texturizing spray or pomade to the ends of your layers. The wavy lob is a beautiful transitional cut for women who want to eventually cut their hair short but aren’t quite ready for the shock. It suits fine hair especially well thanks to the shorter length and the presence of waves, which mimic the look of thicker tresses.

Styling Fine Hair

On the other hand, if your hair is short and you’re looking for something more unique, you might want a completely side-swept pixie cut in which all the hair on your head sweeps in one direction. Finally, for something in between, a short side-swept messy style might be your favorite look. Curly short hair comes in dozens of unique varieties, from short spiral curls that tend to take on a life of their own to a curly classic bob. If you’re looking for something that suits your rebellious side and allows you the freedom to create a unique look, then the grown-out, side-swept pixie look might be a perfect choice. It involves leaving your hair longer in the front and on top and tapering it down to an inch or two in the back and on the sides. Paired with a deep side part and some volumizing mousse, you can create some insane lift and an edgy rock-and-roll vibe.

Hairstyling products with a heavier texture can tend to weigh down fine hair, making it look limp and flat, so you may want to steer clear of those. Thin hair, on the other hand, refers to the density of your hair, or how many strands of hair you have per square inch on your head. Hair density can range from thin (fewer strands per square inch) to thick (many strands per square inch). Hair can be naturally thin, or it can become thinner over time as a result of hair loss—and that’s called thinning hair. The biggest difference between fine and thin hair involves texture and density.

Short Afro with Tapered Sides

It's effective at removing oil and dirt, without compromising on the soft, glossy finish we expect from a high-end shampoo. Did we mention the classic shampoo is obtained with 100% clean energy, while its solid counterpart is completely carbon offset? A fantastic investment for anyone looking to go greener with their haircare.

Fine vs. Thin Hair: Here’s What You Should Know About the Often-Confused Hair Types

The difference between fine hair and thin hair is to do with the density of your hair and the thickness of the strands. With thin hair, you can have thick hair strands but fewer of them. Yes, hormonal imbalances can impact both hair texture and density, leading to fine hair and thinning hair concerns. Hairstyles with layers and textured cuts can add volume and dimension to fine hair. Fine hair strands are finely textured, which means they have a smaller cross-sectional diameter compared to thicker hair strands. "Shorter styles work best with fine hair because [they] make the hair appear thicker," says Aronson.

If you have fine or thin hair, or a combination of both, the tips, below, can help you improve your hair care routine. This lightweight, sulfate-free shampoo is designed to remove build-up while also nourishing and strengthening hair to reveal its natural beauty and volume. When you run your hands through your hair, does it feel like there’s not much there? Keep in mind this doesn’t necessarily mean you have fine hair — it may just be thin. Seeking professional help on the underlying cause of hair thinning can also help you create a treatment plan. For example, thin hair may struggle to hold styles due to the lack of volume, resulting in it appearing flat.

It is ideal for women who have naturally fine hair or hair that is beginning to thin since the blunt cut ends give the illusion of much thicker hair. The classic look involves cutting stick-straight hair right at the shoulders, then parting it down the center and taming any flyaways that may occur. If you want a style that is classic, youthful, and easy to recreate in the morning before you head out the door, the blunt lob is a top contender. Thin hair refers to the density of hair and is defined by the thickness of each strand as it typically has a smaller diameter than the average hair strand. As a result, thin hair tends to have less density or layers, leaving it to appear sparse.

Have you ever wondered whether or not you have fine or thin hair? However, as hair experts, we are here to tell you that knowing the main differences between fine and thin hair can help you better take care of or treat hair. And if you’re a hairstylist, you may be asked by clients to determine whether their hair is fine or thin. Knowing the main characteristics of thin and fine hair can also help you better understand how to treat hair when performing a color or a cut on a client. Thin hair, on the other hand, refers to the amount of hair you have on your head; think density, not the diameter of each strand. Or you’re looking extremely puzzled right now; we hope it’s not the latter.

These strands may appear wispy and are more prone to breakage due to their fragile nature. Keep your scalp clean and moisturized to support a healthy environment for hair growth. These strands often lack volume and can appear limp, even when freshly washed. Slicking back your hair with a product like gel or mousse allows you to pat down any baby hairs while concealing sparse spots on your scalp.

The Collector's spies Fandom

owl house the collector

Upset, he starts to cry and reveals to Luz how he was imprisoned and reveals that all of his previous friends have lied to and betrayed him. In an attempt to get him to see the error of his ways, Luz, Eda, and King take him on a tour of places that helped them bond. After this, while at the Hexside Grudgby field, the Collector sees students hiding behind the bleachers and tries to befriend them, but they run away in fear. At the Knee, their message to the Collector starts to sink in when he hears breathing in the distance and the group realizes Belos has possessed the Titan. He has tan-yellow skin, bushy white hair and eyebrows, an upward-pointing nose, and a large pale blue blotch that eclipses the left side of his face, giving the right side the appearance of a crescent moon shape. Ages ago a young Collector proved to be a distraction to the older members of the species, known as the Archivists.

Siblings

He asks King to read him a story, and King obliges, pushing the stack of stone slabs to fall backward and wrap around the planet structure in front of him, and opens the book to read. King reads the first paragraph and looks at the second one, but the Collector hurriedly asks him to not read the next part and skip to where he "fixed it"; i.e. scratched it out and wrote a new one. Pulled together from rediscovered masters tapes of the late-night talk show Night Owls’ infamous 1977 Halloween broadcast, finally audiences can witness the unbelievable events as they happened. The world-first release of Late Night With the Devil is here in collaboration with directors Cameron and Colin Cairnes and released on Blu-ray as their preferred format. The Owl House is a partially defunct American animated television series created by Dana Terrace that aired on Disney Channel from January 10, 2020 to April 8, 2023. During the war, a Collector (either an Archivist or someone completely unrelated) became the deity of the Trappers under the alias "the Grand Huntsman", implying they were a great Titan killer.

Eda's Requiem

Despite his jealousy and Puppet Raine's claim that Luz has come to defeat him and take King away, the Collector still shows a desire to befriend her, submitting her, Eda, and King through a series of dangerous games in hopes that they would want to be his friend. But when that doesn't work and he is beaten in all of his games, the Collector goes to sulk in a corner, opening up to Luz almost immediately when she approaches him, telling her their story and venting with her. Feeling bad for the Collector, Luz demonstrates how she, Eda, and King were misunderstood as well and how they didn't fit in either, showing the child several places of the Boiling Isles that helped them improve their friendship and how kindness and forgiveness help a long way. The Collector listens to Luz and takes her lesson by heart, showing a desire to improve his ways and make real friends.

Understanding Willow

He starts turning people into puppets, much to King's dismay, in order to help with the game, and creates spies to help with this. He also captures Eda, and stores her in a room guarded by puppets, under the impression that she's in her Owl Beast form and can't change back, despite this not being the case. The Collector rejoices at the fact he will soon be free from his prison, stating there are "so many games" he wants to play once liberated. He adds that, if he and Belos require a third player, another Grimwalker could be made; Belos rejects this idea, saying he will only make another once Hunter is dealt with. The Collector then painfully begs Belos to release him early, whining that the human did promise. Belos also rejects this, saying that the Draining Spell must first work, which the Collector himself promised in the bargain.

owl house the collector

Collectors are immensely powerful beings, capable of warping reality, from levitation, transmutating beings, altering reality, moving celestial objects, conjuring objects etc. In the present, the Titans are completely extinct with the exception of the young King Clawthorne. At the same time, the only Collector that is around for the events of the series is the young, childlike one that was sealed into the In-Between Realm. This implies that they either moved from the Demon Realm (or at least this specific planet), were imprisoned in an unknown place, or went extinct during the Titan-Collector War, making it a mutual kill for both sides.

Making new friends

The Titan Trappers exist to the present day, seeking to find the last Titan left alive to free the Collector from his imprisonment, having mistaken him for the Huntsman. Eventually, a set of Collectors known as the Archivists came across a planet that was home to the Titans, a gigantic species whose magic could cancel out Collector magic. They send out their younger brother to investigate, and the child soon befriended the giants. Afraid of their power, the Archivists waged war on the Titans, possibly on their own or with help from other Collectors. They were joined by the "Titan Trappers", a cult that, as the name implies, trapped Titans by dressing up as them, allowing the Archivists to kill them. Right afterwards, he honors his end of the deal and ends the Day of Unity by moving the eclipsing moon out of the sun's way.

Scheming With Belos

He is the younger brother of the Archivists and a member of a race of cosmic beings who was banished to the Demon Realm and trapped inside a tablet by The Titan, remaining in their for millenia until the Titan's son King Clawthorne freed him. Not one of Belos' followers, or even anyone on the Isles, were aware of their Emperor's partnership with the Collector except Kikimora. When Luz revives and saves them from Belos's attempt to crush them, the Collector, remorseful and determined to redeem himself, volunteers to keep the Archives afloat to keep everyone safe while Luz, Eda and King deal with Belos. Once he's defeated, they float back to the Archives, at first afraid that the Hexsquad will punish him but delighted when Amity helps him up.

Watching and Dreaming

In contrast to the deceitful and manipulative Emperor Belos, the Collector is honest and holds pinky swears for instance to be sacred. This is shown when he was upset that Belos lied revealed his deception and betrays him, and later when he kept his word to stop the draining spell when King freed him. The Collector's design was inspired by the works of Remedios Varo, a surrealist painter known for her astrological imagery.[13] Other inspirations for his aesthetic included puppets and clown dolls with star motifs,[11][12] which is shown in his ability to turn people into puppets.

Powers / Skills

owl house the collector

Killing the Titans didn't stop the Collectors from collecting other species, which was seen when the Huntsman transformed the Owl Beast into a curse. As time goes on, Philip adopts the image of Emperor Belos, establishing dominion of the Boiling Isles. The Collector remained his closest ally, and together they concocted a complex plot that would complete their common goal on the Day of Unity. Not one of Belos' followers, or even anyone on the Isles, were aware of their Emperor's partnership with the Collector. While he started out villainous, even helping Emperor Belos in his genocidal plans, he ultimately turns out to just be a lonely child that was manipulated and didn't know the consequences of his actions, and would redeem himself after befriending the heroes.

When attacking, a crescent moon symbol appears on their foreheads (this being the projectile used to cast their puppet spell), and both of their eyes face forward to lock onto their target. The Collector starts playing with King and his puppets, acting out scenes that very loosely depict events in the show. At one point in time, Terra Snapdragon played Eda, but later got turned into a puppet due to not doing a good enough job. King tries to get him to stop, but he refuses and they head back to the Archive House where he has Odalia Blight put away the puppets and serve Eda pizza bagels.

When assistance arrived in the form of Emperor Belos, the Collector helped the emperor with the Day of Unity in exchange for his freedom. Once the event proceeded as planned, Belos went back on his word and abandoned the Collector in his prison, only to be freed from it later by King. Upon his release, the Collector defeated Belos, and took over the Boiling Isles, turning it into his personal playground, with King as his bound companion. When they heads where the possessed Titan is, the Collector tries Luz’s lesson about kindness and forgiveness on Belos, but when he attacks the child, Luz intercepts the blast, disintegrating and dying in front of him.

Like with Luz, the Collector doesn’t think much of Amity at first, saving them from Belos with ambiguous intent and only seeing her as another potential playmate shortly after his release. In "Watching and Dreaming", the Collector is befriended by Amity after she gives him a hand when he collapses from exhaustion after struggling to keep the Archives afloat for so long. At first, the Collector is afraid that the group will dislike him for everything he has done, but tearfully takes Amity’s hand when she helps him get up. When everyone reunites at the Owl House after the defeat of Belos, the Collector and Amity are seen happily talking with each other. However, the Collector wakes up soon after to find Raine Whispers, whom he turned into a puppet, moving on their own.

Convinced and manipulated by his words that Luz has come to defeat them, the Collector has decided it is time to play "a new game" and angrily snaps his fingers. In "O Titan, Where Art Thou", King enters the In-Between Realm in his dreams, where he finds the Collector imprisoned inside an orb. The Collector goes into an insane rambling on how he's almost free and how he won't be alone anymore. When King calls out to the entity, the Collector's silhouette appears on the orb, where he notices King.

Fearing the titans' power, a group of the Collector's siblings, known as the Archivists, sent the Collector down to the Demon Realm under the impression that he would be playing with the titans. Upon arriving in the world, the Titans welcomed the Collector and quickly bonded with him, and he took a liking to their kids because of how cute they were. Unbeknownst to the Collector however, the Archivists slowly took out all the other titans, which left the only remaining titan furious at the Collector, believing he was the one responsible. The Collector wears a cloak that has celestial decorations on it; one side black with moons and stars, and the other grey with black suns. As a spirit, it appears as a two-dimensional being with a half-split design; again with one side black with three sun symbols, and the other grey with three crescent moon symbols.

With a temperamental nature and great power at his fingertips, the Collector is a dangerous and unpredictable force that will not hesitate to punish those who upset him and terrify others into obeying his demands. When the Collector plays his games with King, Eda, and Luz, he briefly takes the form of a Pac-Man-like creature with a rounded head and a wide, toothy maw. What happened to the other Collectors is unknown, but it is believed as life developed in the Demon Realm and new species of demons were born, the Collectors maintained a sporadic presence, capturing rare magical beasts for their collection. Contact with the forerunning demonic species occurred, some even worshipping the Collectors, believing them to be gods and in awe of them wiping out the Titans. The groups that formed were the Titan Trappers who mimicked the actions of the Collectors in hunting down any Titan infants. Collectors are humanoids dressed in robes with iconography related to the day and night.

It doesn't take long for the disheartened Collector to open up to Luz as soon as she approaches him, showing his desperation in wanting someone to understand what he’s been through. When she, along with Eda and King, shows him how they became friends and takes him on a trip around the isles recalling their adventures, the Collector starts to open up more and bonds with them, starting to see a new dimension to friendship he never realized before. The Collector wears full-body clothing resembling robes or pajamas with an oversized collar and sleeves. The sleeves have these colors switched, with the right sleeve being periwinkle with blue suns and the left sleeve being blue with periwinkle crescent moons, as well as a magenta border on the rims of the cuffs. He wears a dark purple nightcap with magenta trim and a light star-esque spotted pattern.

camouflage design

This simple, inexpensive project can be completed in less than one hour from start to finish. Spray painting or spray painting is a creative and artistic hobby that has grown in popularity over the past decade. Spray painting can be used to decorate almost anything, including walls, canvases, and even your fingernails! Learn how to create a five-color camouflage pattern with stencils using spray paint. The only thing you need for this step-by-step guide is two spray paints (one for each color), stencils, latex gloves, and paper towels. The pattern itself is based on real military camouflage patterns, but with different color variations you can make it more fun and useful for a variety of projects.

Update your settings

This cutting edge design is a favourite for more technical outfitters. It’s up to you whether you want to wear the same camo pattern head-to-toe, or mix it up with different patterns. Some hunters like to have multiple types of patterns for the different seasons, game, and environment they hunt in, and others prefer to go for all-purpose, super-versatile patterns. The best way to find out what you prefer is to get out in the field and see how it performs.

DIY Camouflage Paint Plan

You might even be able to find hunting clothing that has both blaze orange and camo already incorporated together. Hunting environments vary across the country and the world, especially throughout the year with changing foliage quantity and colors. The following variables should be considered when selecting the right camouflage pattern for your next adventure.

Benefits Of DIY Camo Pattern Ideas

This simple DIY painting tutorial for camo patterns is short, sweet, and designed to guide you step by step. Learn how to draw your own stencil from a photo of an actual object and create beautiful art. Photoshop filters are the key to making great camo patterns for clothing. You'll learn how to make digital photoshop patterns with this tutorial, and you can use them on your clothes, or you can apply those patterns to any colors and be creative.

However, in the design world, the camo trend illustrates the use of natural hues such as green, oranges, yellows, even pinks and purples, and mixing them to recreate a bright countryside wedding. So, if you’re looking for unique camouflage designs, you’ve come to the proper place on the internet. Here's an easy DIY project to create an excellent camo design on any fabric. You can use this technique to make new pillows and cushions for your home. This DIY project is easy enough for children and adults and can be used to update military-inspired or camouflage fabrics around the house.

Fabric & Notions

If you wear it at the wrong time of the year, your ability to blend into the background is going to be hampered. Tree bark, sticks, and actual leaves are all parts of such designs. These are fantastic for the seasons and areas for which they’re designed, and one of the best is Mossy Oak Obsession. The patterning causes you to see the colors that are most prevalent in your environment, and your brain “fills in the gaps” when looking at MultiCam. In contrast, MultiCam was designed to blend in well with virtually any environment (except for snow) regardless of terrain, lighting, or weather conditions. Unfortunately, it often gets confusing when you realize just how many versions of camo are out there.

How To Create Custom Camouflage Pattern

camouflage design

Camouflage nets can help you create an environment to blend into, if you’re in a tricky spot in which you can’t set up a stand or blind. It also can help disguise non-camo parts of camouflage equipment, like the legs of your stand, or hide the equipment you’re not currently using. Whether it’s in a tree, a hunting blind, or on the ground, a hunter’s specific setup can dictate which pattern to wear on any given hunt. Darker patterns will help hunters be absorbed into the interior darkness of a ground blind, while a hunter elevated in a tree stand may want to blend in with the forest canopy being hunted in. The amount of leaves in any given forest can dictate whether a hunter should wear a pattern with leaves embedded in it, or if the hunter should consider a pattern that resembles tree bark. Pay attention to the amount of leaves in the area you’re hunting and select your camo accordingly.

A “cousin” of Brushstroke, it was inspired by the French Lizard design. Quickly becoming something of its own, it can be found in various jungle environments. In 1948 the US Army Engineer Research and Development Laboratory created the so called ERDL pattern, which is not only synonymous with the Vietnam War, but also influenced several other patterns. There have been pixelated patterns long before Canada started issuing pixelated uniforms in the late 1990s. Especially nowadays a magnitude of designers are creating hundreds of patterns as we speak, which most of us probably haven’t even heard of. Only during WW2 industrial printing of camouflage fabric and the manufacture of widely issued uniforms became a standard.

You can create a beautiful piece for your home with just a few materials. You won't miss out on this detailed plan, which takes about ten days to complete. To achieve this transformation, the materials needed are espresso stain, acrylic paint, storage basket, wallpaper, and polycyclic clear finish.

We take intellectual property concerns very seriously, but many of these problems can be resolved directly by the parties involved. Created in the 90s, this time-tested pattern was the first of its kind to layer realistic grasses over bold, dark shadows to simulate a wetland landscape. Mossy Oak Country DNA is the latest version of their most popular pattern, the Break-Up Country. It’s enhanced to further conceal you against any wooded backdrop, whether you’re up in a stand or hidden in the shadows. This item contains 1 eps10 and 2.ai files with vectorized versions of the graphic collection and 14 jpg files (4000×4000 px, 300 dpi).

Digital camo, however, uses pixelated micropatterns which blur together and dither at a distance making them more difficult to pick out. This breakthrough revolutionized military camouflage and almost all modern armed forces use some form of pixelated camo. ERDL is basically the grandfather of all camouflage patterns in the latter half of the twentieth century, most notably for its direct descendant, the US Woodland. While most company copy simply describes their fabrics as “camo” it’s anything but a standard design and comes in all sizes, shapes, and colors. Taking inspiration from the best camouflage designer — Mother Nature herself — Mossy Oak created this abstract camo pattern, inspired by the earth.

Also known as Six Color Desert, you’ll often see this patterning at military surplus stores. It became popular during the First Gulf War and was specifically created with desert environments in mind. From 1981 to 2006, this was the camo pattern used by the majority of the US military, and it’s still an incredibly popular pattern worldwide. Short for “Marine Pattern,” this was the first digital camo pattern adopted in 2001 by the US Marine Corps. And even though new camouflage designs with different approaches still enter the market, the actual dominance of Multicam and its derivatives is unbroken.

How To Paint Camo With Acrylic Paint

Color is a critical component of camouflage, and creating a single camouflage pattern that one can use against a variety of backdrops is extremely difficult. Patterns might be of five colors against a four-hued backdrop (“patches”) or four hues against a five-hued background (“patches”). Camouflage patterns can give your creations a solid and distinct look. The type of camouflage used by soldiers on the battlefield is the most basic. Color and pattern are the two primary features of traditional camouflage clothes that assist in concealing a person. Camouflage cloth is dyed in muted tones that blend in with the prevailing colors of the surroundings.

This font is stencil-inspired too, but it's even simpler and more straightforward—its military style is visible at first glance, so it will look great in a headline on a poster or flyer. Repeat the same step again, this time trying to create one or two big clusters. Use the Offset filter on both layers to make them complement each other.

It will be perfect for science-fiction projects—everything including robots, war in space, or simply any high-technology military topics. It's solid, clean, and easily readable, and it will work perfectly for any military-styled projects. Repeat this step, this time trying to turn the elongated splotches into smaller, rounder ones. Take the Brush Tool (B), set the Flow to around 10%, and use the Soft Round Brush to make the pattern less consistent.

How To Make A Camo Pattern That Repeats

It features pops of green to help mimic moss, leaves, and other foliage. The rationale for this pattern’s use is that it is aesthetically distracting. The speckled camouflage pattern’s meandering patterns disguise the body’s outline. Your brain “connects” the lines of the colorful blotches with the lines of the trees, ground, leaves, and shadows when you gaze at a piece of mottled camouflage in a matched environment. It impacts how you view and recognize the person or item who is dressed in camouflage.

In the early 2000s a new phase of camouflage development started, not only in terms of pixelated designs, but also to the approach of camouflage itself. At first only for elite troops like paratroopers, and later for the rest of military branches. Especially the Waffen-SS was equipped with several different patterns, all designed by Johann Georg Otto Schick, an art professor based in Munich. They came up with disruptive patterns and trained military units to use these approaches to conceal their equipment.

Choosing the right camo pattern can ultimately be the deciding factor in whether a hunter finds success on any given day. The main reason hunters wear camo is to blend into the hunting environment and avoid alerting — and scaring away — game. If you don’t know how to make a camouflage pattern in Photoshop or other graphic design tools, try this camo pattern maker or digital camouflage pattern generator. This online camouflage maker allows creating camouflage patterns of any size. From the bottom right toolbar, click on the wheel cog icon and resize the document as needed.

This is the civvy version of MARPAT and is one of the best patterns out there, in my opinion. It’s a pixelated camo in which the individual pixels are further grouped into blob-like shapes. As a result of this reliance on a blending effect rather than the traditional contrast effect of camouflage, MultiCam even works at close range as well. The last hundred years were quite eventful, when it comes to camouflage.

Realtree Max-7 provides an extra edge while hunting keen-eyed waterfowl, blending your outline among the many different types of foliage found in a marsh. It uses a combination of high-definition, realistic foliage images, arranged in a high-contrast light and dark pattern for concealment up close and far away. Open this template and go to LAYERS on the left side and select the BASE LAYER. Duck Hunter was a favorite amongst, you guessed it, duck hunters from the 1960’s through the 1990’s but was originally known as US M1942–the camo used by American troops in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.

It uses a unique, brush-stroke inspired set of abstract shapes to help melt your outline into the treeline. Its unique pattern and color helps it blend into a variety of wooded backgrounds. This camo pattern features digitally accurate images of the natural elements that make up a waterfowl habitat. Shadow Grass Habitat is based on the learnings the Mossy Oak team gathered from their first waterfowl-specific camo pattern, the original Shadow Grass, and is updated for modern hunting.

Many people confuse camouflage patterns with camo pajamas or other comfy clothing items. When trying to decorate your home but want to do it on a budget, incorporating DIY camo pattern ideas into your design is a great way to get the look you want without spending too much money. There are many ways to create a look reminiscent of military-style camouflage patterns, and the good news is that they all come at a price that won't break the bank. Camo can be used in multiple ways, from cutting out shapes of animals and pasting them onto your walls to painting an entire room in one solid color but with splotches of darker paint mimicking trees. We've devised a few ways to bring this pattern into your home that don't involve breaking out the paintbrush yourself. Camo, short for camouflage, is frequently connected with uniforms or protective gear used by police and military personnel to blend in with the environment.

Average private rent for Scotland was £947 in March 2024, up 10.5% (£90) from a year earlier. This was down from an annual increase of 10.9% in February 2024. Scotland's annual inflation rate has been generally slowing since the record-high annual rise of 11.8% in August 2023, which was the highest annual rise since this series began in 2012.

And they say, let’s come up with a law that works where all the other ones have failed and actually make TikTok answer to its Chinese connections once and for all. It is our commitment to this committee and all our users that we will keep this free from any manipulation by any government. The bottom line is this — American data, stored on American soil, by an American company, overseen by American personnel.

Scotland rents data are predominantly for advertised new lets, with only a small proportion based on existing lets data. Therefore, price changes for existing tenancies are largely estimated for Scotland. Annually, over 450,000 private rent prices are collected in England and around 30,000 in Wales, 40,000 in Scotland, and 15,000 in Northern Ireland. In March and April 2024, UK HPI estimates were revised from January 2021 onwards by making use of price data processed outside the UK HPI's normal 12-month revision period.

The Cost of Living (Tenant Protection) Scotland Act capped in-tenancy rent price increases at 0% (and up to 3% in certain circumstances) from September 2022 until 31 March 2023. Between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2024, this rent price-increase cap was 3% (and up to 6% in certain circumstances). From 1 April 2024, temporary changes to the rent adjudication system restricts rent increases for existing tenants who apply for rent adjudication. Data collection volumes for Brent have been high in recent months. This means that a large proportion of data for Brent are from recent months.

And so March rolls around, and they decide that it’s time to unveil this bill that they’ve been working on for close to a year. But for lawmakers, this doesn’t really make their concerns go away. Instead, this conflict shows them how TikTok could be used to spread propaganda. It made lawmakers feel that TikTok could be really dangerous when it comes to shaping the views of Americans on foreign policy, on US elections. And what it also does is, it provides this driving force to this group that’s drafting this bill.

And I mean, it’s an interesting thing that ByteDance and TikTok have to grapple with. And then there is the chance that the Chinese government blocks this sale and says, you cannot do this, ByteDance. You can enter your zip code, and there’s a button that appears. And you can press it, and the call goes straight to your representative. — and lobby on the steps of the Capitol and meet with lawmakers. This morning, House lawmakers have agreed unanimously to move a bill to a full floor vote.

U.S. lawmakers have long worried that the Chinese government could use the app to spread propaganda.

But isn’t that just a function of the fact that TikTok, at this point, is the public square in the United States for young people? I mean, this is what young people were talking about, and this is where they’re doing the talking. That was actually written by Osama bin Laden, defending the 9/11 attacks and criticizing the United States’ support of Israel. TikTok users start trying to tie it to the modern day conflict. So within weeks of this hearing, this small group of lawmakers gets together.

It was unclear exactly how many students had been suspended. Hundreds of students, standing for or five people deep, encircled the encampment in a show of solidarity. And hundreds of students and others from around the campus have come out to support them.

They go into vote, and they come out, and it’s 50 to 0 in support of the bill. So days after this bill is announced, a ton of TikTok users get a message when they open the TikTok app that basically says, call Congress and tell them not to ban TikTok. And so they’re trying to make it as rock solid as possible so that they can win in court when TikTok challenges this law.

Administrative data

Selecting the best rental listing website depends on your needs and preferences. You should consider factors like selection, cost, and features to choose best websites to find house rentals. You should also compare multiple sites to find the one that best suits your requirements. Apartments.com is the best option for eager renters with more than 81 million visitors per month.

Homes for sale by state

Each subsequent month, updated Northern Ireland data are used to revise estimates for the UK. This means that there is a two-month revision period for the UK series in PIPR. By chain-linking the IPHRP (pre-2015) and PIPR (2015 onward) indices together, we have published a full historical series for the UK, Great Britain, its countries and English regions.

And the court fight to follow will determine the fate of TikTok’s future in the US. And he said that this law infringes on the First Amendment free speech rights of Americans who love it and who use it every day. So bottom line here — selling TikTok is quite complicated, and perhaps not even possible for these reasons that you’re giving, right? I mean, not least of which because the Chinese government might not allow the algorithm to leave the country. And that’s not something that the US Congress has a lot of control over.

But analysts estimate that it will cost tens of billions of dollars. Regulators would say, you already own these big apps. So the bottom line here is that the clock has started on this potential sale, right? Yeah, no one’s coming to pick up your phone and to forcibly delete this thing. What the law says is that app stores and web hosting services wouldn’t be allowed to carry TikTok anymore.

So basically, it would kind of die a slow death over time, where it wouldn’t be updated and just kind of peter out. I mean, people would still have the app on their phones, right? TikTok has pushed back really forcefully against these accusations. They said that Gallup polls show that young people view Israel differently than older generations.

They are currently walking around in a picket around the encampment. 00 PM deadline for protesters to clear out of the encampment at the center of Columbia University has come and gone, and there’s still quite a large contingent inside the encampment. And the legal experts that I’ve spoken with say this is a really big and sticky area of the law, and it’s a huge case. And they really think that this will go to the Supreme Court, regardless of who wins in the first round of this. So it’s very clear that TikTok plans to challenge this law in court.

Since UK rents have been rising at a record-high pace for more than a year, this has led to a sharp increase in the estimated rent price for Brent recently. The PIPR and the IPHRP use the same administrative rent price data. The PIPR also uses administrative property attributes data. More detail is available in our Quality assurance of administrative data used in the PIPR methodology. In March 2024, the average private rent was highest in Kensington and Chelsea, London (£3,305), and lowest in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland (£475).

UK monthly rent estimates for the latest two months and UK HPI estimates for the latest 12 months are provisional and subject to revision. All statistics are non-seasonally adjusted estimates, unless explicitly stated otherwise. I mean, the company is really approaching this with the idea that the First Amendment rights of Americans are being infringed on.

Because of this imbalance, their respondents continue to expect rents to rise over the coming months. What this law really does is it puts the future of this hugely popular app with 170 million American users into question. TikTok has reshaped the way many people listen to music. Zumper is an excellent rental website and has an average of 7 million monthly users.

To produce provisional UK statistics, Great Britain's inflation rate for the latest two months has been used to estimate Northern Ireland's inflation rate in this period. For more information, see our Measuring the UK housing market blog post. Average UK private rent increased by 9.2% in the 12 months to March 2024 (provisional estimate). This was up from 9.0% in the 12 months to February 2024 (revised estimate) and represents the highest annual percentage change since this UK data series began in January 2015. Price Index of Private Rents (PIPR) measures private rent inflation for new and existing tenancies. Average private rent for Wales was £727 in March 2024, up 9.0% (£60) from a year earlier.

50+ Must-have Cruise Essentials from Amazon in 2024

However, the prices are expensive and they aren’t open 24 hours. It’s much cheaper and more convenient just to pack a little of everything with you so you’ll have it at the moment you need it. No one goes on a cruise thinking about getting sick, but it does happen. One important tip — no matter which sort of fan you bring, you want something compact. Remember that you’re going to have to lug it to the ship and back home.

Tech Items & Electronics Accessories to Bring on a Cruise

To help you out, we’ve rounded up a list of nearly 40 useful items that you need to take on your cruise. The following items may be tempting to bring, but cruise lines either take care of these for you or they aren’t allowed on the ship. Second, in the middle of the ocean it’s tough to run out for anything that you forgot.

Yes, you can wait until you get to port to pick up things you meant to bring, but that’s not always convenient. Well, when you cruise you have some unique situations that you don’t find on any other vacation. Your cruise luggage tags will have you looking like you’ve done this before. Not only will your luggage turn heads, it’ll also show up to your room.

Things to do in the Caribbean

(Ladies, try to match your outfits, so you only need to bring one pair of heels.) You might also want casual or athletic sandals, hiking boots or water shoes for rocky beaches. These days, almost all of us check our phones for the time. But when you are in port, it’s often easier just to carry a cheap wristwatch. That way you can be sure you get back before the ship leaves port, as well as keep track of when any scheduled activities onboard are about to happen.

Be sure to bring along a cover up that you can slip over your outfit to add a little modesty. Many lines have apps for your phone with things like maps and schedules that are extremely helpful. As well, many people hop on the wi-fi to stay in touch back home.

Make sure it’s lightweight and has 4 spinner wheels so that it’s easy to board your cruise ship and disembark (even if you do self-disembarkation). Cruisers are masters at using small cruise cabin space efficiently. An over the door organizer is very practical to store items you and your family will use often. You can hang this on your bathroom door or even use magnet hooks to hang on a cabin wall. These items are useful to organize your cruise stateroom, for packing and to use onboard your cruise ship.

Beach Bag or Travel Backpack for Port Days

You can purchase something like this, too, and then label it. Bring sea bands or a motion sickness patch, just in case. If you prefer alternatives to medications like Dramamine or Bonine. Ginger pills can help, but start taking them 2-3 weeks before the cruise for effectiveness.

Being able to prevent and treat sunburn is important to enjoying your cruise. Grab a bottle of aloe gel to bring on your vacation. Where a passport is truly handy is getting off the ship at the end of the cruise. These days most ports have facial recognition to process passengers. If you have a passport, you simply walk off, take a quick photo, and then walk out of the terminal.

If you are taking a flight to your cruise, get a set of Apple AirTags (if you have an iphone). If not, a tile or another similar product can work well for you. It’s best bring the reef friendly sunscreen from home, as it will be less expensive than buying it on site. This snorkel set is more traditional, but also very popular with cruisers. While I wrote a blog post about the pros and cons of packing cubes, the fact is, there are very few cons.

Bringing a few clips like these can help keep your towel secure to your lounge chair and save you some stress. Having a few episodes to binge on a cruise is one of our guilty pleasures. It’s also a great way to keep kids entertained if you feel like taking it easy in the cabin.

They not only enhance your appearance but also protect your skin from damaging UV radiation. Knowing what to pack can turn that pre-cruise excitement into a case of cabin fever. Welcome to your ultimate cruise essentials packing list, your treasure map of 56 must-have items that will make your cruise ship cabins feel like a home away from home. Whether it’s your first voyage or you’re a seasoned cruiser, it’s time to organize your cruise essentials to pack for your cruise.

Finally, a place to put that refillable water bottle while walking around on the cruise ship on a sea day, or even on an excursion. These waterproof phone cases with lanyards are great to keep your phone dry, and keep the sand out when you’re at the beach. I love these in particular as these also have a touch screen (so important when cruising and traveling).

Environmentally friendly reusable storage bags are also a great alternative. This foldable laundry bag easily fits in your luggage or carry-on. Conveniently toss dirty clothes during your trip, and when packing for disembarkation, stuff the bag, clothes, and all into your luggage. While others prefer pop-up laundry bags, we like to keep our dirty clothes separate when repacking.

You’ll have the freedom to escape the crowds and lounge where you please. You'll want to look your best (and shiniest) for nights out on the ship. To avoid a bird's nest of gold and jewels, this cruise essential item is a must have. It'll be ready and eagerly waiting its time to shine.

You likely already have a suitcase or a duffel bag to pack your clothes in, but it’s a good idea to switch over to a 4-wheel spinner suitcase if you don’t have one. The walkway from the cruise terminal to your cabin can be pretty long. There are often stairs, inclined walkways, and thresholds to pass. Having been on literally dozens of cruises across every major line, we know what’s important to bring… and what you can leave at home.

These lines cater to all ages, including older couples and families with children. The shortest Southern Caribbean cruises are five or six days and leave from places such as Barbados, San Juan and St. Thomas. You can find weeklong sailings from Florida, but more commonly, they're eight nights or longer.

Nothing keeps me organized like this cruise document holder, which easily fits everything you'll need — passports, boarding passes and more — so you can keep it all in one place. There's even room for credit cards and cash if you're looking to streamline further. The wrist strap means you can keep it handy at the terminal without having to rummage through your bags or worry about papers flying everywhere. Whether exploring hot ports or winding down with a few drinks, enhance your cruise experience by including travel packs of electrolyte mixes to your cruise essentials.

Packable Sun Hat

While not as basic, it’s rechargeable and provides extra illumination—an excellent choice for enhancing your makeup routine. Our friend Kim swears by it for a good night’s sleep and to keep the air circulating, making it a must-have for her on every cruise. Other cruisers can’t sleep without the noise of a fan. Newer ships may have more outlets, like our balcony cabin on the Norwegian Joy, which has three US outlets. Some staple them to their suitcases, while others use cruise luggage tag holders for security and a neat look. You can then slide the printed e-tags into sealed plastic holders, securing them with a steel loop.

What should you always bring on a cruise?

👉 This Osprey daypack is our go-to for excursions as well as general travel. I like that the soft silicone is small and easy to pack. Polarized sunglasses will help you see the water, and the wildlife within it, with a lot more definition. The naturalist on our last cruise showed me the difference. While David and I have phones to look at, we bring a cabin alarm clock for Little Man.

Thank-you cards

Depending on where you are traveling, insect repellent is essential in some locations, especially the hot and tropical excursions and when near water and beaches. It will give you easy access to all your bathroom accessories, including using as a makeup cosmetic bag and shampoo, soaps, cleaners, toothpaste, and toothbrushes. A stain removal pen is one of those items you don’t realize you need until you do.

As digital nomads since 2019, my family has become repositioning cruise aficionados. We love taking long cruises from one place to another, usually between countries or continents. The beauty of the land and its immense history; the thrill of seeing bears, moose and bald eagles; and the mysteries of the surrounding marine life will astound you.

OUR Top 5 Cruise Essentials We Never Sail Without

The GLocal Me comes with 8 gigabytes of North American data and 1 gigabyte of global data. It comes in especially handy when an airport or cruise terminal doesn’t have kiosks selling SIM cards in the arrivals area. If I only took one on a cruise, it would be the 8L bag for our family of three. 👉 We have the 3L, 8L, and 20L wet dry bags from Sea to Summit. If you need a way to secure more valuables than just your phone, invest in a waterproof waist pouch.

Essential Cruise Accessories for Organizing Your Cabin

If you plan on doing any kayaking or other water excursions, you’ll get good use out of this waterproof drybag. I love the size and practicality of his weekender style carry-on bag. It’s perfect to carry over your shoulder, but also fits right over the handles of your luggage. Many of these items are things that I bring and use on my own cruises.

Instead, you’ll often find it in the built-in vanity that’s in your room. If you want, you can still pack your hair dryer from home (they are allowed), it’s just not needed. Most notably, Carnival and Royal Caribbean allow you to bring your favorite drinks with you. Instead, if you have a favorite drink, it’s nice to be able to bring it with you so that you can enjoy it during your vacation.

For water sports like kayaking, consider a dry bag to stow your camera gear, smartphone and wallet and prevent them from getting wet. Waterproof cases for your cellphone and camera are also useful, as well as "beach wallets" that let you go into the water with your credit cards and cash on your person. Just be sure that your power strip doesn't include a surge protector; those are banned from most cruise ships, as are extension cords.

With this travel bottle set, there's no need to leave your creature comforts at home. We all have our favorite soaps, shampoos, moisturizers, etc. But, you'll find similar products in your local hostile. We need our Aveda and nobody is washing baby with anything but The Honest Company soap.

When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. Choose from the two main dining rooms, several casual cafes, grills, and on-the-go options. Some not-to-miss complimentary dining options include Cadillac Diner, where you can enjoy some classic Americana dishes and milkshakes, and East Meets West, perfect for when you're craving Asian cuisine. Additional health and safety precautions during the first half of our sailing due to a flu outbreak onboard (stay tuned for additional information and thoughts on this) also led to long lines and waits during peak times. When planning your days in port, note that with the exception of Kona, the ship docks at ports that are short driving distances to any points of interest. This is a noticeable difference for passengers used to cruising in places like the Caribbean where most activities can be found immediately on shore.

Is Norwegian (NCL) Pride of America a good ship to cruise on?

NCL changed the ship's name to "Pride of America", as well as its dimensions - tonnage (from 72,000 GT to 80,450 GT) and LOA length (from 850 ft / 260 m to 920 ft / 280 m). Delivery date was scheduled for 2004 but due to a storm damaging the vessel this happened in 2005. The US Government made an exclusive act giving a ship predominantly built in Germany a USA flag. Norwegian's Pride is the biggest cruise ship in the US register and the only USA-flagged ship home-ported in Honolulu Hawaii.

(As an example, a two-piece suit costs $19.99 while a dress is $11.95.) There are no DIY launderettes onboard. Pride of America has a variety of pool options, namely the South Beach Pool on Deck 11 (mid) and the Oasis Pool on Deck 12 (aft). There is also an animal-themed kids pool on Deck 12 that includes slides and a paddling area.

Get into the aloha spirit with a drink at the Aloha Lanai Bar, offering plenty of Polynesian drinks, including Mai Tais and Surf Rider drinks. The Royal Hawaiian Resort in Waikiki, often referred to as the "Pink Palace," inspired Pink's Champagne Bar. With sharp emerald ridges towering above the Pacific Ocean seeming to touch the sky, steep, plunging waterfalls, and beaches so remote I kept expecting to see Tom Hanks and Wilson, cruising along the spectacular Napoli Coast was my favorite part of my Pride of America sailing. If given a choice I’d take a 15 day cruise over a 7 day cruise any day. Well, as your Cruising 101 professor, I’m going to have to flunk you and strongly suggest you reevaluate your direction in life.

Hawaii is a large draw for families, which brings down the average age of Pride of America passengers a bit (the median age on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship is around 50). You'll find a good mix of families and older couples with some younger (in their 30s) mixed in, but you won't find many college-aged spring breakers. This means that evenings are pretty tame and child-friendly (you likely won't see people shot-gunning beers and cheering at the poolside bar). Americans make up the majority of passengers followed by Australians (thanks in part to Australia's proximity to Hawaii).

Norwegian's Mandara Spa is the spot to be if you want some well-deserved pampering on your cruise. Get a manicure and pedicure, book a relaxing massage, or indulge in a body scrub. You can book a range of other treatments, from teeth whitening to cellulite reduction. You can also schedule an appointment for nutritional consultation, a personal training session, and more. Take a stroll around other iconic destinations in the United States without ever leaving the ship. Have a drink in the Gold Rush Saloon, relax in the Key West Bar & Grill, sip a glass of wine at Napa Wine Bar, or experience Mardi Gras at the Mardi Gras Cabaret Lounge & Nightclub.

Liner's godmother is Elaine Chao - US Secretary of Labor at the time. The naming ceremony was held in NYC New York on June 17, 2005. Prior to ship's christening ceremony, Mrs Chao (born in 1953 in Taiwan) had held different positions in US administration. All positions were connected with transport and maritime matters, such as Deputy Secretary at US Department of Transportation, Chairman of Federal Maritime Commission, Deputy Maritime Administrator. Our gift shops onboard carry everything you'll need for fun in the sun. Shop from a variety of souvenirs, cosmetics, clothing, snacks and sundry items.

Balconies in Owner's Suites measure up to 410 square feet, while interior space comes in around 570 square feet. There are 20 additional Penthouse Suites onboard, each measuring between 363 and 416 square feet of space. These have a king-sized bed, a seating area (separated by a privacy curtain), walk-in closet and bathroom with a shower and bathtub. Two of the Penthouse Suites are ADA compliant and can accommodate guests with disabilities. Like the other penthouse suites, these feature an expansive outdoor balcony (around 245 square feet of space). There are two Deluxe Penthouse Suites, all located on Deck 13 and measuring 461 square feet.

As the only U.S. flagged cruise ship, Pride of America sails year round from Honolulu, giving you the freedom and flexibility to vacation on your schedule. Visit four Hawaiian Islands and five ports in seven days while you cruise through paradise in style. Dining options on Pride of America are abundant and high quality. Those interested in keeping cash in their pockets will not have a lesser time by going only to free dining options (although the food is definitely better at the extra-fee restaurants) and crew members are happy to accommodate dietary restrictions. For those looking for a more upscale experience, the extra-fee dining outlets are excellent and on par with what travelers can find in any major metro area (with prices to match). Passengers staying in one of Pride of America's suites are in for a treat as there are many perks only for them.

Perhaps most impressive is the pesto gnocchi ($7.99) and vegetarian lasagna ($8.99). They are welcome to sit in the main buffet area with their families or can relax in the adjoining "Kid's Cafe" -- a mini version of the real thing. Kid's Cafe includes a buffet situated low to the ground with child-friendly food such as macaroni and cheese and Jello.

For this reason, it is advisable to organize shore activities in advance. Pride of America offers a plethora of exciting shore excursions for a fee (ziplining, kayaking, bus tours of Volcanoes National Park, luaus and more). Shore excursions are such a big deal on this ship that they often fill up before the ship leaves port the first day. Do some research before you go and try to sign up way in advance for the best slots.

The 2005-built Pride of America cruise ship is operated via the brand NCL America as a unique Project America-class (one-vessel only). When you want some "me" time, look no further than Mandara Spa®. Relax with a hot-stone massage, one of over 50 speciality treatments offered.

You will find lemongrass-scented lotion, soap, shampoo, conditioner, cotton balls and cotton tips. Gambling is illegal in Hawaii and since Pride of America is a U.S.-registered ship, there is no casino onboard. Prior to joining Norwegian, Lee served as a Product Director for Johnson & Johnson, spent time in Global Marketing for Eli Lilly Corporation and worked on Latin American Programs for the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise. You don't have to pay admission to the Maui Ocean Center ($39.95 for adults/$26.95 for children) to dine, but if you love aquariums consider a visit; the new 3-D "Humpbacks of Hawaii" immersive experience in The Sphere is captivating. Are you looking for some Hawaiian jewelry to bring home from your trip? Na Hoku has the best selection of the finest Hawaiian jewelry for women and men.

I found myself wishing for more days at sea to enjoy the comforts of the ship and that Pride of America itself was so quiet, well-maintained, and well-run. Seeing Pride of America return for the first time in two years represents a return to normalcy for people in port. For those who rely on the tourist trade brought by the cruise ships, it's a return to financial stability. As of early June, only Cagney's Steakhouse and Jefferson Bistro are open, along with complimentary dining venues Skyline Main Dining Room, Aloha Café, and Cadillac Diner. It will be interesting to see how the industry continues to respond to these challenging times and you’d better believe, even though it may not be the exact same experience, I’ll begin cruising again as soon as it’s safe and available.
